Netbook Happiness

I have to go on a tangent once in a while, because my passion is writing, and I have been tasked with writing about gadgets and reviewing gadgets for a few years now with multiple sites.  I know I’ve done some of that writing here on my blog, too.  I am so geeky when it comes to new devices and computers.

I’m totally addicted to my netbook.  If you haven’t seen one yet, you will.  Netbooks (like my Acer Aspire ONE) are smaller computers (smaller than laptops) with a little less power.  They have come a LONG way from the old boxy laptops that you had to get a special carrying case for…now I just slide my system into my purse and carry it to work each day.  Then, after work, I head home with my netbook back in my purse.  It’s light and super-portable.  I’m really thankful when I started working here a friend showed me hers and I was instantly intrigued.

Now, I walk around stores and when I see one on the shelf I stop and look to compare stats.  If it’s like mine and I see someone interested in it, I’m like a super-salesperson, giving them stats and telling them how I use mine.  It’s horrible!  But, all the same, I’ve had a few tell me thank you and they purchase one based on my experience.  That’s always a good feeling.

That’s why, when I write about gadgets and new technology either here on my blog or on my other gadget review blogs, I tend to get excited about sharing things and introducing how I use them in my life.  I have always felt “working knowledge” was powerful.  I really see evidence of that now, with social media being such a huge way of communicating.

First, love the new look of the website. It IS new right?

I tried the Netbook: HP Mini. But, I’m an Apple addict, so it doesn’t work so well with my other computers (Mail, syncing bookmarks, etc.)

But, I do bring it with me sometimes to write and surf the Web. I do like the keyboard. My iPhone is great, but you cannot type and you really can’t surf the Web.

So, I mainly bring my Apple laptop and iPhone, but when I don’t want to carry the 4 pound laptop in its case, I bring the netbook. It’s good to have options. Now everything is relatively cheap so you can have multiple (sorry, I couldn’t think of a better word) devices.

LOL on the “multiple” devices catch. Yes, I can see the HP being different. Someone at work has one and it includes the proprietary monitor plug so you have to buy a special attachment to expand to a monitor. Ugh! My Acer has the typical stuff and even a nice SD memory card slot, too.

I am the same, with my iPhone. I can tap out some LONG emails though when I need to. LOL I’m looking forward to the OS update in a few days, landscape keyboard and MMS :)

I can take my netbook to Starbuck’s though and hardly get to work on it. Everyone will walk by and go “what kind is that?”, “does that work with Windows?” of course, I have Windows 7 on it so that’s even more fun to show them. (it runs much faster than XP!)

I have a netbook myself, an ASUS Eee 1000h. I have to say that due to how affordable it is, the shear battery power, and of course how portable it is it has been one of the best buys I have made. You have also inspired me to write about my own :)
