Hidden Alters

  • Posted on March 18, 2009 at 9:53 pm

In any system, I think that as you work through learning about your parts and the jobs that they do for you, you will find alters inside that might not have names.  During my therapy I was able to map out my system and finally see some of the names that I placed on my alters.  Thing is, I had some that were unnamed and, to this day, I cannot truly identify their jobs but I do know they are a part of me.

It’s very hard to explain, but there are times I feel a presence that isn’t common but I know they are there for a specific job.  Once the job is done, I feel a blank spot in my experience in place of the presence.  It sounds very odd, I’m sure, but try to touch on it for me if you would.

Similar to a ’singleton’ dealing with daily life.  You have a strength from ‘within’ that you didn’t realize you had.  You speak up when you’re not used to doing that…or maybe you react to someone in a weak way when you’re usually a stronger person.  It’s very similar to that.

I don’t want to minimize my situation or others that have suffered (and sparkled) from MPD, but finding these similarities seems to help those on the outside touch on what I might be feeling in my life.

Does anyone else feel that they have a few (or many, like me) hidden alters in their system?  Or, do you find that even without MPD in your life, you can touch on this issue with experiences you have had?

Mirror, Mirror: A few words about reflection

  • Posted on March 7, 2009 at 3:56 pm

It is easy to reflect on my past when I am looking at such a successful future.  When it was most hard was when life was really down and frustrating.  I have tried to keep this in mind when other people come to me for advice on mental health…or just life.

It’s really easy to get caught up in your success and happiness, and that’s GREAT, but you do have to “share the wealth” some when you are in an up-mode or you can expect to not have anyone around you when you are down later on.  It will happen.

When someone writes me about MPD and asks me for help I try very hard not to answer them with the attitude that “it’s so easy, just do this and this”.  I know deep inside that it’s not easy and there are so many struggles ahead.  Even for me, with such good times now, I can see that I will face struggles, too.

I hope that I never give off the image to anyone that once things are settled with me I’m not available to help them.  I hope that I’ve never pushed anyone away that needs support and someone to talk to.  I’m sure, I’m human, that I’ve made mistakes in friendships (I do have on my 100 things page that I’m a sucky friend…I hate that but I’m working on it!) but I work very hard and will continue to work very hard on staying focused and helping others.

There is nothing wrong with reflecting on your past as long as you realize that you can learn from it and make your future brighter.  Sounds “goody-goody” but it’s honestly something to keep in mind when you start to blame your past for your present condition.

You can change your stars…I am!

Norton Online, Stay Safe

  • Posted on March 6, 2009 at 12:14 pm

MomCentral is offering a free “sneak preview” of the new Norton Online site.  I am happy to share this opportunity with you and to link you over, but I wanted to tell you a little about the site, first.

It offers an easy setup that is a one-time account creation, you enter profiles for your family members based on age and maturity level (I appreciate this as some children are ahead of their friends at the same age).  Then, it enables you to follow your children’s activity online, modify the profiles at any time (to adjust for specific sites you DO allow), change and update preferences, and even set up time allotments to keep your child from spending too much time browsing sites or playing games online.

You can do this from work or any other computer, it doesn’t have to be the system your child is using.  I like that it offers a peek at what words are typed into Google searches, so you know a little about what the child might be searching for, too.

With many other features, you can take a look now via this link and let me know what you think about monitoring your children while they explore the Internet.  Is it disrespecing their privacy or is it protecting your child?

I am loving all the great news that Mom Central gives me to share with my readers.  You know, this gives me a chance to not talk so much about just ME and MY problems, but to share good news or fun things with you, too.

This post is about the Disney On Ice show that comes to major cities.  Mom Central has a great offer so you can get tickets with a discount code.  You get 4 tickets for $44 by entering the code “MOM” at select ticketing channels.  There’s also some front row and VIP seats selected and reserved for purchase before they go public.

I’ve never been to any of the Disney On Ice shows, have you?  Did you enjoy it?
