This’ll Make You OCD (in a good way!)

Stop MRSA LogoSo many of us have been faced with MRSA fears and many of us have had direct contact with the issue through ourselves or a family member.  I, myself, had a family member spend a week in the hospital due to MRSA and it was an incredible experience.  Scary and nothing you would want anyone to go through, my mother was confined to the hospital for a week while they worked high doses of antibiotics through her system to rid it of the MRSA.

The STOPMRSANOW.org site outlines many ways we can avoid this antibiotic resistant bug.  Here are a few of the most common directives:

  • Scrub up – Wash hands frequently with soap and warm water for at least 15 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand rub sanitizer.
  • Wipe it down – Use a disinfecting bleach solution to wipe down and disinfect hard surfaces. (1 tablespoon of disinfecting bleach diluted in 1 quart of water)
  • Cover your cuts – Keep any nicks or wounds covered with a clean, dry bandage until healed.
  • Keep to yourself – Do not share personal items, like towels or razors, that come into contact with bare skin.
  • Use a barrier – Keep a towel or clothing between skin and shared equipment.

I encourage you to visit the site and read more about the issue, and feel free to share your experiences in the comments section so others can find ways to avoid this affecting their lives.

Pleurisy Is No Game

I had pleurisy in the 90′s when I was pregnant with my first child.  It was awful and I swore I would never forget that pain.

I don’t have to forget it because I’m being reminded directly of it.  I have been fighting bronchitis for a few weeks and I guess it decided to settle in my chest and cause problems.  I missed a day of work today and the Dr. would prefer I miss tomorrow, too, but I’m unsure how long I will sit still.  I got to visit the ER on Friday night (party-time, right?) and now I’m working to take my medication and rest.

I just moved into my new apartment and I have so much to do–but I know if I don’t take care of myself I won’t be able to do a thing!  It’s definitely worth resting up and getting well (my mother keeps reminding me) so I will try to be good and do that.

I hope that I can find the time, now that I have internet set up in the new place, to do some writing.  I have so many stories to share and I really need to catch up on things around the blog-world.  I miss my friends so much and I hope to reconnect with my blog here and offer up my help again.

I certainly enjoy working everyday to improve my life and I like the idea that I can share my experiences with others and help them in some way, too.  That really has always been my goal and I don’t want to let it slip by because I’m “too busy”.

Here’s to rest and strength!

A Little Lost and A Little Found

  • Posted on October 20, 2008 at 10:51 pm

I did it!  We finally got settled into our apartment, the kids and myself, and we’re so very happy that we have so many friends and family that helped us complete the job.  We feel so blessed!

I have my moments where I feel, as the title says, a little lost…but then things turn around for me and I feel a little found again.  I’m so thankful that I have such a great support and a loving family around me.

My children are certainly feeling it and I have heard them express to me this past week how thankful they are and it makes all the trials and struggles worth it when I see them thrive and find more strength through all this.

They have been amazing.  I have so many goals to reach but I look back at the last year and a half and I see what I’ve already accomplished and I’m in awe.

I could not have done it alone.  I’m sure of that!
