Not going THAT far…

  • Posted on July 31, 2007 at 1:31 pm

I have loved decorating but I’m not going so far as to change the blinds up that my mother has in my room.  It sounds so funny to say that at my age but I’m glad I have support from my family in all this.  I know I’m not the only one that has had to go ‘back home’ to live for reasons that happen in life.

I have been dreaming of a space later on and what I might add to it.  One thing that I have seen change the whole character of a room is the window treatments.  I grew up with simple roller blinds in my room as a child and now they have so many options you can choose from.  Plastic types and wooden types grace windows all over giving each room a different look.

I think I prefer the wooden, large slat types, myself.  Do you have your house decorated with blinds?  What did you choose – simple and practical or more of a designer type?  Venetian or verticals?

Invasion with Optimism

It really was a good visit.  I actually enjoyed my visit to IKEA and although it was rushed a bit because I had the kids with me, we got lots accomplished.  I was able to get two desks and one dresser (thanks to my parents who are helping me tons right now) so that our rooms would be more cozy.

We’re kind of invading my parents house right now and with that, we are making our little spaces more organized.  I got a desk to keep my laptop and files on, then a dresser for my son to keep his clothes organized in and a desk for him.  I’m really pleased with how easily it all fit together.

The dresser took a bit more for assembly but the two desks were super easy and feel very sturdy.  I now have a workspace in my bedroom and this is a desk I can take with me when I get my own place.  I’m feeling pressure for that, but realize I need to get my surgery before taking that step, since I’ll need help during recovery.  Then I can get out and look at what the career world has to offer me.  I know I have lots to offer it!

Lots of new steps are being taken in my life and sometimes it’s a bit scary but I keep looking up.  I don’t know where I got my optimism for life…I’ll have to analyze that one later.

Accessories for Cells

I recently got a new cellphone and since living in Colorado gave me little chance to be a big geek (I lived in a small town where it made less sense to have a cell) I have been doing reviews on things that better fit where I live.  This brings me to sites around the web that have good buys and ideas for my situation.

One thing that I want but don’t need is a cell phone cover for my phone.  It’s one of those things that you look at and think it might be fun to have, but maybe it’s not practical.  I’m all for “fun” gadgets anyhow.  This site seems to have all the choices you’d need including phone charms to dress up your cell, memory cards and batteries.

I guess I’m back in that world of geekiness and I can now surround myself with gadgets without feeling like they aren’t useful.  :)

IKEA Addiction?

  • Posted on July 30, 2007 at 9:00 am

I have had a few people say that if I visit IKEA I will become addicted to it or buy more than planned.  I have a trip planned to IKEA today and I’m wondering what others out there have purchased there.  Did you enjoy it?  Are you addicted?

I’m just going for a dresser and a desk/chair, possibly.  Since I’m having to rebuild some, considering all my furniture is still in storage somewhere in Colorado, I thought having just a few things of my own would be nice.  I’m looking forward to going today.

I know in the past I talked about needing surgery.  I have an appt. planned for Aug. and hope to schedule that soon.  I have a feeling once that’s done, I will hit the ground running and have lots of fun planning my future.  I’ve always tried to stay positive in situations that affect my life.  I feel like, if I look at things with a down-trodden attitude, I will continue to follow a negative path.

Here’s to optimism!  :coffee:
