We decided one of the first things we’d do when family arrived was to take the children sledding on the golf course hill. I have gone quite a few times with my own children and I know how fun and tiring it can be. I’m a big kid too, so I always enjoy going down the hill…the hard part is always climbing back up!
Knowing when I went I would encounter “visitors” on the hill (people from out of town this time of year) I made sure to wear my good coat with lots of pockets so I wouldn’t lose a thing. I placed my cellphone in a pocket and carefully zipped it. We hit the hill and sped down it a few times. My nephew of 5 years old was the bravest at first but my son and nephew got the snowboards out for some practice later on.
After heading down the hill a few times I decided to hit it fast. I ran and jumped on the sled and sped down, hitting the bottom with a fancy flip over and stand up. I was showing off… I then walked over to my sister-in-law who was taking a video of her son. I realized my cellphone was gone and my pocket was unzipped!
I had gotten some water for my daughter at the top of the hill before this crazy run and unzipped my pocket. I frowned and she offered to get her phone and call mine. You see, I have this lovely MEOWWWWW ringer on my phone that gets annoying if it keeps ringing. Her son offered to sled down the hill and listen for it.
As everyone was up on top of the hill and my sister-in-law called, you could see my nephew at the bottom listening.
Ring, he walked to the left and stopped…like a hunter.
Ring, he walked a little to the right and stopped…hunting it down.
Ring, he walked over to the far right with big steps, listening…and then pounced in the snow and found my cellphone.
I felt just like a tourist that forgot to zip up a pocket but we found my meowing phone! It was great fun and we went out for lunch after that, planning our ski trips for the following days. We also planned to sled the hills up higher on the pass (Wolf Creek Pass) the next day and I was looking forward to that because the snow is piled up over 70″ up there.
More on our trips and some photos to come!
I have so many stories to tell of the last week. I have felt so freaking “scattered” or “switchy” with regards to my mental state. Today has almost been depressing and you’d think that I would be happy to have my space back.
I think the worry about my mother (she’s in recovery and doing well), family stuck in the snow in New Mexico (on their way home but the highway is closed), and basic feelings of everything being so good the whole time everyone was here…is kind of a let down.
I’m sure I’ll recover but I’m in a funk right now and I think I’ll take advantage of that and get to bed early.
I have a good story for tomorrow about my lost cell phone during our sledding trip.
We have gone sledding twice and skiing on Wolf Creek two times as well this week. I think after my family leaves I’ll be taking a vacation.
Actually, I might be taking a road trip to Texas because my mother is having surgery today and I’m keeping my schedule open in case I need to go help out there. I’ll keep everyone posted but I’ll probably be tied up until tomorrow afternoon when my husband’s family heads out.
I definitely have pictures of the ski trips and stories to share. I’ve stayed relatively balanced the whole trip so that’s good.
Tonight there’s a surprise trip I cannot talk about yet here and I will let you know, probably tomorrow, what the details are there. I can bet it’s going to be a BIG surprise for family. We’re getting snow and we’re very excited to share our home with everyone.
I hope all my friends had a great Christmas and I’m looking forward to a New Year, even if I feel this year went by SO fast! Anyone else find that the year progressed quickly or was yours slow?
I was called today by my sister-in-law:
Her: “Hey, J. found out at work today that Colorado was declared a national emergency or something and we cannot drive up in that Blizzard (of 2006) without getting stuck.”
Me: “Well, we got hit two days before Denver and we’ve had time to “dig out” so it’s not so bad. The roads are clear and I think you should have no problem.”
Her: “Oh good, he was arguing with a guy at work that told him he’d never make it up there, even driving.”
Me: “Well, our small town seems to pride itself on the fact that we get over 100″ of snow a year and we rarely stop functioning…Denver is a large metro area and they get affected more with highways and stuff…we have back roads and the plows don’t have as much work to do–they covered most areas by 1pm the day after the storm.”
Then, my husband mentioned, “Last night we had some cross-country skiiers going through our yard. Isn’t that neat we have that much snow?”
*giggles* I guess now that we’ve lived here we realize the dangers and the fun that can be had with snow. We’re expecting another mountain storm Friday-Saturday and Sunday night.
I think we’re going to be blessed with a White Christmas! I’ll send some your way if you like snow…and don’t have enough. I have to make Gina a snow angel so expect a photo of that!
I was asked recently to review a site. The catch was that I was to buy something on the site and, in addition, I was given $30 to spend via a gift card. I told them I would be glad to review it and felt this could be a very honest review as I would experience the whole site all the way through “check out”.
My first experience with the site was a few clicks on the girls gifts and the top 25 section. The Top 25 included the top 25 last minute gift ideas, top 25 gifts for him, her, the top 25 toy selections…and other creative lists.
I shopped the Gifts for Her section for my sister-in-law. (I can’t say what I got her because it’s not at her house just yet!) I also visited, for quite some time, the gifts for girls since I have a 9 year old daughter. I found quite a few ideas, under $30, that would have been excellent.
There were even a few gifts that I geeked out on like the Logitech mouse and the unique gift list on the site. I really enjoyed the ease of shopping and the cleanliness of the site as I searched for gifts. I was especially impressed with the loading times. I browsed the site with my laptop which generates graphics a little slower and the site was so fast loading during my searches.
I’m glad I was able to be chosen for this experience and I highly recommend, due to a personal experience I had, this site. You can get “in store” delivery in most cases, too. If you’re doing last minute shopping, that might be worth it to save you fighting crowds. Just walk in and grab your goods.
It was sent to me via email and they said, “It is perfectly fine, even encouraged, to let your readers know that Sears and M80 provided you with the gift card for the review.” which I greatly appreciated as well.
